Israeli forces killed a Palestinian near West Bank's Jenin Thursday, according to Agency France-Presse sources.
Ahmad Tazazaa, 22, was killed by Israeli troops while they were making arrests in Kabatya, south of Jenin. Palestinian officials reported that residents of the village threw stones the Israeli troops when they entered the village in protest of their plans to make arrests. The troops responded by opening fire on the stone-throwers, killing Tazazaa. Four other people were arrested.
In related news US senior officials denounced Israel's construction plans to build 1,500 new settler homes in east Jerusalem while peace negotiations between Israel and Palestine are underway, according to AFP reports. State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters that "We do not consider continued settlement activity or east Jerusalem construction to be steps that create a positive environment for the negotiations. At no time in the course of pursuing negotiations toward a two-state solution have we condoned settlement activity or east Jerusalem construction."
The renewed negotiations were launched in July. The negotiation teams from both sides have now met at lest thirteen times in the past three months, but few details have been provided about the content of the discussions due to the US-imposed blackout of the process.
