ALBAWABA - As part of the first stage of a ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal in Gaza, Israel's Ministry of Justice said on Saturday that 735 Palestinian inmates had been released. This action is a component of a larger agreement mediated by the United States, Qatar, and Egypt, among others.
Zakaria Zubeidi, the former commander of Fatah's Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, and a number of other well-known prisoners, including Ahmed Barghouti, who was given many life sentences for his 2016 assaults, and Iyad Jaradat, who escaped Gilboa Prison in 2021, are among the notable individuals scheduled to be freed.
1167 people from Gaza who were imprisoned during the conflict but did not take part in the October 7 assault will also be released as part of the agreement. According to Al Jazeera, this is a component of a larger deal that aims to swap 33 Israeli inmates in Gaza—both alive and dead—for the Palestinian ones.
Israeli prisoner records included inaccuracies, such as names of those who had previously been released and missing information for others, which alarmed Palestinian authorities. Al Jazeera emphasized remarks made by Palestinian leaders urging the use of mediators to guarantee adherence to the deal and avoid misunderstandings.
Additional exchanges, an Israeli departure from Gaza, and a long-term restoration plan for the region are all part of the three-phase accord. Rebuilding Gaza and resolving unresolved problems like border controls are the second and third stages, whereas the first phase concentrates on the immediate release of prisoners and the end of hostilities.
