Work will start Sunday on the construction of defensive barriers along the demarcation line between Israel and the West Bank, Israeli Defense Minister Binyamin Ben Eliezer said, Israeli public radio reported.

Eliezer announced earlier this week that the work would start "at the end of the week or early next week" between the towns of Kfar Salem and Kfar Kassem in the north of the West Bank.

The structures between should be completed within six months, the radio added.

Consisting of series of enclosures, trenches and walls equipped with electronic surveillance systems, the barriers should eventually extend along the 350 kilometers of the "green line", the demarcation lone that separates Israel and the West Bank.

The objective is to "prevent the infiltration of Palestinian terrorists and explosives in Israel", Eliezer said. (Albawaba.com)
