Israel’s Foreign Ministry on Saturday voiced outrage over comments made by its ambassador to France, who had expressed disappointment with the Bush administration's handling of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, saying it was not doing enough to resolve the problem, Haaretz newspaper reported, citing Israel Radio.
The radio reported senior diplomatic sources as saying that Ambassador Eli Barnavi had overstepped the bounds of his authority, had intervened in matters that did not concern him, and had damaged relations between Israel and the United States.
The foreign ministry was forced Saturday morning to publish a clarification of Barnavi's comments, saying that no one doubted that the “US was Israel's great friend and that Israel valued the important position the US was taking.” – Albawaba.com
