ALBAWABA - The Israeli military said on Sunday that it had effectively stopped a drone smuggling effort to bring weapons over the Egyptian border.
The drone was seen crossing from Egypt into Israeli land, notably in the Paran Brigade region, carrying eight firearms and ammo, according to reports from the Israeli Broadcasting Authority.
According to a spokesman for the Israeli army, military personnel kept a careful eye on the drone's activities. The drone was successfully shot down by a Caracal Battalion unit that was dispatched when it entered Israeli airspace.
Israeli soldiers found eight weapons and a variety of ammo aboard the drone after it was brought down. The drone had been monitored throughout the operation until it was destroyed, the army revealed.
There have been several smuggling attempts along the Egyptian-Israeli border, mostly involving narcotics and firearms. Israeli soldiers have intercepted several of these illicit enterprises.
This event brings to light persistent security issues and the Israeli military's attentiveness in defending the border.
