Israeli Army chief of staff Gabi Ashkenazi on Tuesday said the Israeli army is monitoring the situation on its northern border with Lebanon but does not expect war with Hizbullah any time soon. “At the moment, there is quiet all along the border,” Ashkenazi said, “there was an incident which to our understanding was an explosion of a weapons cache belonging to Hizbullah, which is being handled by UNIFIL and the Lebanese government.  We view the even with gravity, but we do not anticipate a disruption of quiet in the area… I am not aware of any winds of war in the region.”

Ashkenazi’s comments came in the wake of recent border crossings by Lebanese civilians who planted Hizbullah flags in Israeli territories. The United Nations has also been dealing with the recent explosions in the Lebanese weapons depot.
