The Israeli army denied on Tuesday charges by Fateh activists that Israel had tried to assassinate West Bank Fateh leader, Marwan Barghouthi during a Monday demonstration in the West Bank city of Ramallah, reported Haaretz newspaper.
Fateh activists charged that during the demonstration to protest Israel’s siege on Ramallah, a bullet was fired at Barghouti from a gun fitted with a silencer, but it hit his friend who was standing next to him, killing him instantly.
Military officials told the paper that Israeli soldiers had not spotted Barghouti in the area where the protest took place.
In a previous interview with Albawaba.com, Barghouthi did not rule out that his life is targeted by the Israeli forces, after he became a hated figure in Israel due to his heated statements calling for escalating the Intifada – Albawaba.com
