An Israeli civilian was seriously wounded Tuesday when he was shot from across the border with Lebanon, the first such incident since the Jewish state pulled out of its northern neighbor in May, a military source said.
The Israeli, who was working for the army, doing construction on an Israeli military post, was shot in the abdomen and was described as in serious condition by the military source.
No details were provided about his identity, but the source said he was taken to a hospital in Nahariya north of Tel Aviv.
Israel's northern border has experienced regular incidents of violence since the Jewish state ended its 22-year occupation of southern Lebanon.
Israeli soldiers have shot at Arab protesters who gather along the Lebanese side of the border fence to throw stones and hurl insults at them.
A 21-year-old Lebanese civilian from the southern Lebanon village of Wardiniye was shot dead on Saturday by the Israeli army at the Fatima gate border post, Lebanese police said.
