ALBAWABA- Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has called for a comprehensive investigation into the failures of October 7, emphasizing the need for accountability at the highest levels of government and military.
"We did not fulfill our responsibility to defend the residents of Israel on October 7," Gallant stated. He insists on forming an official, objective investigation committee to scrutinize the actions of the government, army, and security forces.
"The investigation committee must investigate me, the prime minister, the chief of staff, and the Shin Bet," Gallant added. He believes this committee should assess why Hamas's strength has grown and identify the shortcomings of October 7 to improve national defense strategies.
Gallant's comments came shortly after Israeli Chief of Staff Herzi Halevy presented the initial investigation report on the October 7 conflict.
Halevy admitted that the outcomes of this war will have long-lasting effects on future Israeli generations. "We will continue until the enemy is subdued, Hamas leaders are killed, and the military infrastructure is destroyed," Halevy asserted.
He emphasized the importance of leading the current confrontation with a strong determination to achieve the war's goals.
Halevy also highlighted the bravery of Kibbutz Be'eri residents, who defended themselves when the military response was delayed. The findings were shared with Kibbutz Be'eri residents to learn from the events and prevent future occurrences.
In a related development, the US National Security Advisor stated, "We see the possibility of reaching an agreement on Gaza, and some details need to be finalized."
President Biden is expected to address the ceasefire talks soon, with current indicators showing more positive prospects for an agreement than in recent weeks.
