Lebanon's Iran-backed Hezbollah said Friday that Israeli fire killed seven of its fighters, without specifying where or when they died as border tensions persist during the Israel-Hamas war.
The group issued a statement mourning the fighters, identifying them as martyrs on the road to Jerusalem, the phrase Hezbollah uses to mourn members. This brings the total number of Hezbollah members killed to 68 since the beginning of border clashes with Israel last month.
The border region has witnessed daily exchanges of fire, particularly involving Hezbollah, supported by Iran, and Israel. The conflict was triggered by the October 7 attacks on Israel by the Gaza-based Hamas.
Earlier on Friday, Israel's military announced that it targeted an organization in Syria, without disclosing its name, linking it to a drone crash into a school in southern Israel the previous day.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that the Israeli strike hit Hezbollah sites, noting the group's alliance with Damascus since at least 2013. On Wednesday, Israeli air strikes killed three pro-Iran fighters as they hit sites belonging to Hezbollah near the Syrian capital Damascus, according to the Observatory with a network of sources inside Syria.
Israel has struck Syria several times in the past month.
At least 90 people have been killed on the Lebanese side in cross-border skirmishes, according to reports most of them Hezbollah combattants.
