The Israeli army late Friday fired rockets at buildings in the southern Gaza Strip town of Khan Yunis following a fierce exchange of gunfire with Palestinians, witnesses said.
There were no immediate reports of casualties in the attack, but earlier in the day, according to hospital sources, at least 45 Palestinians were wounded in clashes with Israeli soldiers in Khan Yunis.
One witness told AFP four rockets slammed into buildings housing civilians around 10 PM (2000 GMT). The witness, whose own building was struck, said he was too afraid to go outside to survey the damage.
An Israeli army spokesman could neither confirm nor deny the rocket attack, but said the Israeli army had retaliated with gunfire in Khan Yunis after "massive Palestinian shooting" at Israeli positions.
Near the nearby Morag Jewish settlement, a Palestinian was seriously wounded by Israeli gunfire during a late night skirmish, hospital sources said.
Also in the Gaza Strip, a man was slightly wounded during an exchange of gunfire between Palestinians and Israeli soldiers, the sources said.
