Israel's first free online lottery, which went into operation just last week, attracted so many hits in its first full day of operation that the system of Mylottonet.com crashed under the onslaught, The Jerusalem Post reported Wednesday.
My-lottonet.com offers a daily prize of NIS 5 million for winning a standard 6/55 lottery, the Israeli paper said.
Sharon Ginat, the project manager was quoted as saying that "we did no advertising, so we were unprepared for the overwhelming response.
"Just one appearance on Gadi Sukenik's television show, plus an interview over Army Radio, generated up to 60 hits per second," which crashed them "twice because of the overload, but we recovered fairly quickly, and this week we are handling the still incredible volume” --Albawaba.com
