A former senior Shabak security service officer, now Israel's deputy minister for internal security, suggested on Sunday that Israel bury Palestinian suicide bombers with pig skins to discourage such operations.
According to the Islamic faith, pigs are “najassa,” which roughly means dirtiness and impurity.
Gideon Ben Ezra claimed that in light of this, Palestinians would refrain from such attacks, which are mostly carried out by practicing Muslims belonging to Hamas or the Islamic Jihad.
Additionally, he suggested offering large cash rewards to those who provided information on potential suicide bombings.
Furthermore, Ben Ezra also said he thought that hurting the closest family members of the suicide bombers could "convince" them not to carry out their operations.
Two recent suicide attacks in Jerusalem and Haifa killed the two bombers and 15 persons, 13 of whom were Israelis. Israel has been on high alert for more attacks.
