Israeli army and naval forces pushed up the Gaza Strip coast early on Wednesday. Palestinian witnesses said 11 tanks and armored personnel carriers swept into the coastal village of Sheikh Ajlun, just south of Gaza City.

Palestinian witnesses said gunmen were waiting on the periphery of Gaza City for any further Israeli advance. An Israeli military source said: "Based on intelligence of terrorist munitions being smuggled by sea the Israeli army and navy have been operating in the Gaza Strip overnight and will resume doing so after daybreak."

A mortar fell on a house in the Gush Katif bloc of settlements late Tuesday night, causing massive damage to the roof and the upper floor, but there were no injuries in the attack, Israel Radio reported.

Israeli soldiers guarding nearby later fired at the Palestinian refugee camp of Khan Yunis, wounding three locals, Palestinian medical officials said. (Albawaba.com)
