Israel ordered Wednesday the Palestinian international airport in the Gaza Strip be closed only one day after it reopened, a senior airport official told AFP.

"The Israeli side on its own informed us this morning that once again the Gaza Airport would be closed for air travel," said the airport's general director Suliman Abu Halib.

He said that no time frame was given for the closure.

The Palestinian international airport in the Gaza Strip reopened Tuesday after being shut by Israel at the end of the last month for the third time since the eruption of Israeli-Palestinian violence, aviation officials said.

Yasser Arafat International Airport was shut down between October 8 and 18, again for the day on October 23 and again on October 31.

The airport, situated at Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, was opened in November 1998 – GAZA CITY (AFP)
