Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on Sunday called to launch regional talks with Arab states based on the Saudi Peace initiative. Olmert announced his position at the beginning of Sunday's cabinet meeting.

According to Haaretz, the Israeli leader said the Saudi initiative is "a plan that we are ready to address seriously," and that "it has positive elements."

The Saudi peace initiative calls for the Arab world to fully recognize and normalize relations with Israel in exchange for a withdrawal to the borders that existed before the 1967 war, when Israel occupied the West Bank and East Jerusalem from Jordan, the Gaza Strip and the Sinai Peninsula from Egypt, and the Golan Heights from Syria.
