Jordanian authorities have recently transferred information to the Israeli army according to which its military forces had foiled a plan by a group of people to launch Katyusha missiles and mortars towards hotels and oil tanks, located in the Israeli resort city of Eilat.
According to the Israeli Yedioth Ahronot daily, about two weeks ago, Jordanian trackers have noticed footsteps of four people close to the bordering fence with Israel, in the Wadi Araba area. The Jordanian Chief of the General Staff has ordered an urgent dispatch of a Paratroopers battalion, which had deployed along the Israeli border and started out searching the area.
Concurrently, the Jordanians have informed the Israeli side about their findings. Only one day later the origin of the footsteps has been found out. Within the thick bulrush about 30 kilometers north of Eilat, the Jordanian forces have detected four people who had been hiding there. In their possession there were two Katyusha missiles and six mortar shells.
During the interrogation, the four people admitted that they had been on route to launch those shells towards the hotels and the oil refineries stationed in the Red Sea port of Eilat, located near Aqaba.
The Israeli army has indicated that this was the second time in recent months that the Jordanians have reported about an attempt to fire at Eilat. (Albawaba.com)
