ALBAWABA - The Israeli army reported on Wednesday morning that an Israeli soldier was killed in friendly fire in the Gaza Strip, The Jerusalem Post said.

The army identified the fallen soldier as Staff-Sergeant (St.-Sgt.) Ofri Yaffe, saying he was killed in combat in southern Gaza.

Yaffe, 21, served as a fighter in the Paratroopers Reconnaissance Unit.

According to Israeli media, Yaffe was hit by friendly fire during a nighttime operation by a paratrooper force in the Khan Yunis area on Tuesday night.

The soldier was critically wounded and was taken to receive medical treatment but he died later on.
