Israeli soldier stabbed in Ashkelon, suspect shot, apprehended

An Israeli soldier was lightly wounded in a stabbing in Ashkelon on Sunday.

Security forces shot and wounded the assailant after he attempted to flee the scene. Police said the attacker was apprehended.

The stabbing took place near the central bus station in the southern Israeli city.

Magen David Adom reported that the 20-year-old victim sustained light wounds to his upper torso and was evacuated to Barzilai Medical Center. 

Security forces were checking the identity of the attacker and the motive behind the attack.
