Israeli soldiers shot and killed a Palestinian farmer early Tuesday when they opened fire following explosions at two Jewish settlements in Gaza Strip, hospital officials and witnesses told AFP.

Sabri Awad Hader, 52, who was working his land near the settlement died after he was shot by Israeli soldiers, hospital officials told the agency.

The Jerusalem Post newspaper reported that armed Palestinians threw hand grenades at an Israeli army post near the settlement.

Also in the Gaza Strip Tuesday, an Israeli soldier was injured when a bomb was detonated by a patrol near the Kafr Darom Jewish settlement in central Gaza, said the agency.

In the southern Gaza Strip, medical officials said seven Palestinians were injured by live ammunition when an Israeli tank fired at the Rafah refugee camp along the border with Egypt as a military convoy was passing through the area.

The agency quoted Israeli Radio as saying that a gunfight took place between Israeli soldiers and Palestinian gunmen at the Neve Dakalim Jewish settlement in the southern Gaza Strip.

Israel on Tuesday responded to the violence by tightening its blockage of the Gaza Strip, blocking traffic between Gaza City and central Gaza.

Witnesses said Israeli soldiers fired on a car belonging to the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) as it traveled near a blocked off area close to the Netzarim Jewish settlement south of Gaza City, according to AFP.

There were no injuries caused in that incident, said AFP.

Meanwhile, the Jerusalem Post quoted Israeli Radio as saying that a group of Jewish settlers blocked the 'Tapuah' junction in the West Bank, in protest against the recent violence in the area.

The settlers threw stones at passing Palestinian vehicles, said the radio report -- Albawaba.com
