Israeli tanks struck Islamist movement Hamas positions in the Gaza strip overnight, in response to a rocket launched Thursday from the seaside Palestinian enclave, reported AFP.
According to an Israeli military statement, the tanks targeted “terrorist infrastructure” in the northern part of the Gaza Strip.
The rocket launched Thursday, though triggering warning sirens in southern Israel, caused no damage.
A Gaza emergency services spokesman told AFP nobody was wounded from the tank fire.
Israel engaged in war against Hamas last summer in a bloody 50-day conflict that left 2,140 Palestinians dead, most of whom were civilians, including almost 500 children and over 250 women, BBC reported. 73 Israelis were killed, mostly soldiers.
