Israeli troops fired live rounds into neighboring Egypt during clashes early Wednesday with youths who threw rocks and bottles at their positions from across the border, an army spokesman said.
"Our troops replied using anti-riot materiel, and with single shots," an army communiqué said. It did not say where the incident took place. There were no reports of casualties.
A military spokesman contacted by AFP confirmed that live rounds had been used.
In another incident in the Gaza Strip, Israeli troops used rubber-coated bullets to disperse Palestinian youths who tried to destroy fencing around a Jewish settlement at Newe Dekalim.
