Israeli President Moshe Katsav spoke out Tuesday against anti-Semitic acts that have occurred in various countries since the outbreak of clashes between Israeli troops and Palestinians nearly four weeks ago.

In letters to a number of heads of state, "Katsav expressed his concern about the wave of anti-Semitic incidents around the world and called on world leaders to be vigilant and to unequivocally condemn such incidents," said a statement from the president's office.

Among others, Katsav sent letters to the leaders of France, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Britain, the United States, Canada, Australia and Uzbekistan.

In those letters, he said he was convinced that the leaders of those countries would do all they could do eliminate such incidents, the statement said -- JERUSALEM (AFP)
