Japan aims to strengthen its ties with Iran to promote counter-terrorism activities during Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi's visit this week, AFP reported Thursday.
The foreign ministry said in a statement that Japan attached "great importance to dialogue with Iran, taking into account the importance of bilateral Japan-Iran relations as well as the fact that Iran neighbors Afghanistan and wields great influence on Islamic countries."
In earlier statements in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, Kharrazi described the military campaign launched by the US on Afghanistan as a measure that did not form a final solution for the crisis.
Iran condemned the attacks on civilians in New York and Washington in September.
Kharrazi has warned the West against continuing to bomb Afghanistan during holy month of Ramadan, which he said would increase hostility toward the US in the Islamic world, and increase the popularity of Osama bin Laden – Albawaba.com
