In its first showing at the International Cairo Theater Festival, the Kuna Oka group put up a white screen next to the stage, where an English translation of the dialogues was presented, to the mostly Arab audience.
The unique idea came about with the first ever participation of a foreign group at the festival.
Meanwhile, the play depicts a story of four narrators who are telling the legendary tale of the princess who died from love. The play, shown at the Open Theater of the Opera House, included ten actors, who at one point were all on stage.
The timepiece takes place at the end of the 17th century in north Japan, where a married princess falls in love with a local. Out of desperation and guilt, the princess decides to commit suicide. After her death, the princess’s soul transports into a wooden statue of a lion.
Consequently, the lion started crying tears of blood.
Meanwhile, the margins of the story tell another tale of love between the princess’s sister and a soldier who was after the King.’s Eagle stolen by the princess’s soul
