A Japanese public-private consortium has reached a broad agreement with the Royal Dutch/Shell group to jointly develop Iran's biggest oil field, in what would be Japan's largest investment in the country since the Iranian Revolution in 1979, a Japanese business daily reported Sunday.

The deal to develop the Azadegan oil field in southern Iran, expected to be worth more than 500 billion yen, also marks the Japanese consortium's first-ever partnership with a major international oil firm in a Japan-led project, Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported, cited by Kyodo News - Albawaba.com
