WASHINGTON
US President Joe Biden awarded the Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest military award for valor, to seven army soldiers on Friday.
"I'm deeply privileged to honor seven American heroes. That's not hyperbole.
"These are genuine, to-the-core heroes. Heroes of different ranks, different positions, even different generations, but heroes who all went above and beyond the call of duty, heroes who all deserve our nation's highest and oldest military recognition, the Medal of Honor," Biden said at a White House ceremony.
Biden noted that he was in his final days as commander-in-chief.
"It's been the greatest honor of my life to be entrusted with the greatest fighting force in the history of the world, and the finest military in the history of the world," he said.
Pvts. Bruno Orig, Wataru Nakamura, Cpl. Fred McGee, Pfc. Charles Johnson, Gen. Richard E. Cavazos and Capt. Hugh Nelson Jr and then-Pfc. Kenneth David -- received the honor for actions in Korea or Vietnam.
David, attended the ceremony, while the families of the other deceased recipients accepted the award on their behalf.
