Jordan’s Information Minister Talib Rifai stressed Tuesday that more work is needed to reach a consensus on the Iraqi-Kuwait conflict, adding that there is “a clear Arab determination to achieve a solution.”

Rifai’s remarks came during a press conference after Arab leaders meeting at the 13th ordinary Arab summit ended their morning session.

The minister said that Arab leaders are working to find a suitable and comfortable formula that would satisfy all sides, referring to arch foes: Iraq and Kuwait.

But he said that there are “positive” indications that an agreement would be found. “We still have today and tomorrow to conclude an agreement and we are very optimistic about the outcome," Rifai said.

Asked about the relation between the two explosions in Jerusalem and the inauguration of Arab summit, the minister said that achieving a comprehensive and a just peace in the region is the only solution to the current situation in the Palestinian territories.

“Unless a comprehensive peace is achieved, violence will persist,” he said.

He described UN Secretary General Kofi Annan’s participation in the summit as “very important,” voicing hope that “his presence would pave the way for more international support for the Arab issues.”

Rifai told reporters that during the evening session that speeches will be delivered by the heads of Tunisia, Sudan, Bahrain, Qatar, Somalia, Djibouti, Kuwait, Iraq, Libya and Jordan delegations.
