The Jordanian security agencies have arrested a number of citizens, presumably linked to the demonstrations staged in the kingdom in support of the Palestinian people.

Eyewitnesses said that the police apprehended late Sunday Mahmoud Awajnah, Ismail Al Sarissi and Bassam Al Sheikh at their homes in the Baqaa Palestinian refugee Camp to the north of Amman.

The police were searching for Nasser Sarissi, Tha’er Al Badu, Tayseer Saradeeh and

Abdullah Al Hattawi, who have been on the run. Nasser was arrested on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Osama Adel, member of the administration council of Baqaa Camp Club, has also been arrested. His wife told Albawaba.com that he was on his way to Syria for treatment, accompanied by his brother, when he was apprehended by the border police.

The families of the arrested believe that the three arrests are linked to the demonstrations staged by the Baqaa residents in support for the Palestinian Intifada, which resulted in the death of 18-year-old Ossama Abdul Karim in clashes with the Jordanian security forces early October.

Jordanian officials denied that Abdul Karim was killed by police fire, and attributed the death to the “settlement of internal disputes” -- Albawaba.com
