The second week of September has witnessed a decline in Jordanian exports to the US of goods produced at the Qualifying Industrial Zone (QIZ) in Al Hassan Industrial Estate due to the terrorist attacks on the US, a Jordanian official said on Monday.
Maher Nasser, president of the Irbid Chamber of Industry, said exports from the QIZ which enter the American market dropped by 14 percent compared to the exports in the first week, the Jordan Times newspaper quoted him as saying.
Exports in the first week amounted to $4.1 million and in the second week $3.1 million .
Most of the exports from Jordan's QIZ which was created in 1998 following a US-Jordanian agreement, consist of garments.
Under the agreement, exports to the US will be duty- and quota-free as long as they meet the required specifications.
Nasser said exports from the estate last month reached $27.8 million and consisted mainly of ready-made garments, plastic and leather products, drugs, and light industrial products – Albawaba.com
