Official unemployment rates in Jordan jumped to 15.7 percent during February 2001, compared to 14.4 percent during the same month a year earlier, according to a survey, conducted by the Department of Statistics.
The survey, conducted on 8,800 families across the kingdom, showed that unemployment was higher among females: 24 percent among women against 14.4 percent among men.
The results also revealed that unemployment was higher in urban areas, and among single men, said the paper. Unemployment stood at 31 percent for the (15-24) age group; compared with 10.6 percent among the (25-49) age category, said the survey.
