Jordan and Britain on Tuesday called for full implementation of a US-brokered peace plan to end bloodshed in the Occupied Territories, reported the Jordan Times.

Jordan’s King Abdullah and British Prime Minister Tony Blair made the joint call during a meeting at Blair's office in London.

Blair urged full implementation of the recommendations contained in a report by a commission led by former US senator George Mitchell.

For his part, the king said the implementation of a ceasefire plan negotiated by CIA Director George Tenet should serve as a first step toward the full implementation of the recommendations, according to the paper.

“Ending the acts of violence should be coupled with immediate Israeli steps to reduce the suffering of the Palestinian people and pave the way for a confidence-building measures,” said the monarch, adding that Israel should end its blockade on the Occupied Territories and facilitate the movement of Palestinian laborers.

Blair, who earlier this week met Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, said his country would push all parties within the European Union and cooperate with the US to guarantee the implementation of the Mitchell report's recommendations and the Tenet plan.

The recommendations are aimed at ending nine months of revolt against Israel's 34-year-old military occupation of Palestine.

The two leaders discussed the Iraqi question, with the king reaffirming Jordan's stand and its call for a complete termination of the sanctions on Iraq so as to end the Iraqi people's suffering, the paper said.

He also stressed that the sanctions imposed on Iraq since 1990 had caused serious economic problems for Jordan and other countries in the region – Albawaba.com
