ALBAWABA - According to a statement by the Bridges Security Department -  Public Security Directorate in Jordan, the King Hussein Bridge (Allenby Bridge) will remain closed until further notice.

Despite previous statements that the bridge would reopen for passenger travel at 10 AM on Monday, the crossing will remain closed for all travel as the investigation continues into the shooting that resulted in the death of 3 Israelis.

The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates announced that "the relevant authorities are closely following investigations into the shooting incident involving a Jordanian citizen on the Palestinian side of the King Hussein Bridge, which is controlled by Israel, resulting in the death of three Israelis,".

On Sunday, a gunman arrived at the King Hussein Bridge from the bordering town of al-Karameh in Jordan in a truck and opened fire at the guards, where three were severely injured before being pronounced dead later in the day.

The Jordanian Interior Ministry later identified the gunman as Maher Ziab Hussein al-Jazi, a resident of the Husseiniya area in Jordan’s southern Ma’an governorate.

The attack comes as the first of its kind since Israel launched its latest brutal aggression on Gaza in October 2023. Officials said that al-Jazi was driving a commercial cargo truck where Jordanian trucks offloaded cargo entering the occupied West Bank.

The shooting occurred days after Israeli soldiers withdrew from the West Bank city of Jenin following ten days of vicious raids that destroyed houses, roads, and water systems. More than 30 Palestinians were killed.
