Lebanon on Wednesday welcomed a decision by the Jordanian government to ease visa restrictions for Lebanese citizens but said that there would be no reciprocal arrangement, the Lebanese Daily Star reported Thursday.

The new regulations, which go into effect on Friday, will also apply to visitors from Israel, Algeria, Morocco, Iran, North Korea, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, India, China, Uzbekistan, Macedonia and the former Yugoslav Republic, the paper added.

A Jordanian tourism ministry spokesman was quoted by the paper as saying that the move was an attempt to encourage more tourism to the kingdom.
