Final settlements, not interim agreements, are needed to solve the Israeli-Palestinian crisis and obtain Arab support for a U.S.-backed peace conference, Jordan's foreign minister said Friday.
"Anything that would only deal with interim arrangements or solutions, would not be accepted," Muasher said in an interview with The Associated Press.
Muasher said Arabs are approaching peace efforts, such as a proposed international peace conference, with an eye toward a peace initiative proposed by Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Abdullah and adopted at the Beirut summit in March.
Jordanian King Abdullah II made similar comments in an interview Friday with PBS' "The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer," saying interim agreements have been a "destructive element" in moving the peace process forward. (Albawaba.com)
