Jordan’s Labor Minister Eid Fayez on Wednesday dismissed as baseless Israeli claims that thousands of Jordanian laborers are working in Israel, reported the Jordan Times newspaper.
In a statement to the Al Rai daily, Fayez said there were no Jordanian-Israeli agreements on providing Israel with Jordanian labor.
Israel has lately mounted a crackdown against illegal workers and their employers, especially laborers from the Arab World. The crackdowns appear to be related mainly to security concerns.
Apart from the Aqaba-Eilat protocol signed in April 2000, there are no labor agreements with Israel, Fayez said, adding that the protocol provides for employing 200 Jordanians on the border.
However, the minister said, even this protocol has not been in effect due to political, economic and technical reasons, as well as Israel's current preference for Asian workers – Albawaba.com
