An official from the Jordanian government and state-run Petra news agency said Iraq has closed the only border crossing between the two countries, AP reported Thursday.

According to AP, Iraqi officials were not available for comment at the time of reporting.

A prolonged closure at Trebil crossing would cut off yet another export route for Jordan, dealing yet another blow to the country’s economy.  The kingdom closed its trade route with Syria after the crossing was seized by Syrian opposition this spring.

Daesh extremists control much of the area between Trebil crossing and Baghdad, and travel there is very dangerous.
