A member of the Jordanian parliament has temporarily lost his immunity to be referred to court after a fistfight with a colleague during which he bit the other MP’s ear, reported Petra official news agency.

The victim was also referred to the judiciary, decided Speaker Abdul Hadi Majali.

The agency said that the fight broke out between controversial Ahmad Owedi Abbadi and Mansour Murad. The latter is being treated in hospital where he was under surgery to reconstruct the mutilated ear.

The two deputies fought against the backdrop of a tribal fight between their families.

However, in an interview with Al Jazeera satellite channel, Murad confirmed the incident but said the part about mutilating his ear was an exaggeration. He said he had an injury to the neck where he received two stitches.

He charged that his rival is a “Mossad agent” working to undermine the national unity, an accusation aggressively rejected by Abbadi who said that Circassians are the people who serve Israel, referring to those holding Israeli citizenship and “work as army and intelligence officers.”

Abbadi charged that Murad and “three bullies” had attacked him in the corridors of the parliament and he “had to defend himself” – Albawaba.com
