A special session of Jordan's Lower House that was supposed to focus on liquidation procedures for the defunct Petra Bank was not held because of the lack of a quorum, said the Jordan Times.
Deputies, who have been asking for the session for nearly two years, had requested the session in order to question the government on certain aspects of the bank's liquidation, the daily said.
According to the paper, only 28 deputies showed up for the session on Tuesday evening, missing by a long shot the required attendance of 41 deputies in the 80-seat chamber.
Some deputies blamed the government for the lack of a quorum and accused the executive of pressuring deputies not to attend. Others blamed their colleagues, saying their “ignorance” and lack of responsibility had aborted the session. The current extraordinary session of the House is expected to be ended next week.
