Jordan's King Abdullah II wrapped up a visit to Abu Dhabi late Tuesday, making a joint call with UAE President Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al-Nahayan for international protection against Israeli aggression, news agencies reported.
"The Jordanian king congratulated Sheikh Zayed on his recovery from surgery and wished him health and prosperity to pursue his work in the interests of the Arab and Islamic world," the official Emirati WAM agency reported.
Jordan's Petra agency said in a dispatch from Abu Dhabi that "the two leaders underscored the importance of international protection for the Palestinians to prevent in the future violence and aggression against the Palestinian people."
Abdullah and Zayed discussed the more than two months of violence that has rocked the Palestinian territories leading to the deaths of more than 300 people, mostly Palestinians, and voiced support for the Palestinian people, it added.
The two voiced support for the Palestinian quest to set up an independent state including Jerusalem, saying this was "an essential condition.
The Jordanian leader also met the visiting Saudi defense minister, Prince Sultan bin Abdel Aziz, who was on a trip to the Emirates to meet President Zayed.
Several Arab leaders have come to Abu Dhabi over recent days to congratulate Sheikh Zayed on his recovery.
Sheikh Zayed, 82, has been out of the country since July 13. He returned November 26 after undergoing a kidney transplant in Cleveland, in the US state of Ohio -- ABU DHABI (AFP)
