King Abdullah II of Jordan will discuss the Palestinian-Israeli peace process Tuesday in separate summits with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak and Palestinian President Yasser Arafat, an official Jordanian source said Sunday.
The king will meet with Arafat in the West Bank town of Ramallah and with Barak in Israel for talks on "efforts to overcome obstacles to the peace process," the source said.
Meanwhile, acting Israeli Foreign Minister Shlomo Ben Ami will visit Egypt this week amidst a flurry of Egyptian diplomatic contacts in the search for ways to advance the peace process, an official source said.
She said the actual date for Ben Ami's visit had not yet been set.
Sources in both Egypt and Israel said former education minister Yossi Sarid, the head of Israel's Meretz party, would visit Egypt on Monday and meet Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in the northern city of Alexandria.
An Egyptian diplomat, who asked not to be named, told AFP Saturday that Cairo was searching for "creative ideas to reconcile Palestinian and Israeli demands, while still protecting Palestinian rights.” – (AFP)
