The Jordanian academic committee of the Higher Education Council has recommended that students who pass the Tawjihi (General School Certificate) resit exams be allowed to apply to public universities for the second semester, Jordan Times reported Sunday.

The Jordanian paper quoted minister of Education Khalid Touqan as saying that the committee's decision is on the agenda of the council's upcoming meeting for final approval.

Touqan said that admissions would be contingent on the student's score and availability of seats, the daily said.

Students will sit for the exams on Jan. 14th while results will be announced around Jan. 25th, he said. According to ministry officials, around 16,500 students are eligible to sit for the exams.
