ALBAWABA - According to local media in Gaza, Journalist Adel Zaarab has been killed alongside members of his family in an Israeli airstrike in Rafah, raising the number of journalists killed in Gaza since October 7 to 97.

Several of Zaarab's colleagues and friends held his funeral earlier this morning, as they mourned the killing of a loved and well-respected journalist.

Zaarab's killing adds to the list of journalists Israeli targeted since the beginning of the latest aggression on the besieged strip.

On Sunday, the media office released a statement condemning Israel's deliberate targeting of journalists across Gaza. "By assassinating journalists, the Israeli occupation is trying to obscure the Palestinian narrative and attempt to obscure the truth, but it has failed miserably in breaking the will of our great Palestinian people," the office added.

Al-Aqsa Flood operation against Israel

Hamas military group announced on Oct. 7 a military operation called "Al-Aqsa Flood" against Israel which is the biggest offensive in decades.

Palestinian fighters “infiltrated” Israel from the Gaza Strip and captured military bases and took hostages as photos and videos went viral online showing Hamas fighters on vehicles inside Israel and others paragliding into occupation territory.

In response, Israeli armed forces announced targeting Hamas positions inside the Gaza Strip. Thousands were killed, and dozens of thousands of others were injured in the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.

Since October 7, more than 19,453 have been killed by Israeli airstrikes across the besieged strip, more than half of whom are children and women, the Ministry of Health reported. Additionally, 52,286 Gazans have been injured, with injuries varying between mild and severe.
