Jumeirah Golf Estates has become "firmly established on the world golf map," thanks to this week's Dubai World Championship presented by: DP World, said Saeed Harib, Nakheel Leisure's managing director, today.
Tens of thousands of golf fans have already visited the Earth course over the first three days of play, while a total of more than 50 million television viewers are expected to tune in to watch the competition.
"This has been a great advert for Jumeirah Golf Estates, establishing its credentials as a world golf destination. The course looks fantastic and viewers have been able to see some really beautiful residential communities taking shape alongside the fairways," said Mr Harib.
"It has also been a great advert for the "can do" philosophy of Dubai. Only two years ago, this location was acres of desert and today, we have a world class course with all the infrastructure around it. We are delighted with the progress of this inaugural event - it's a great foundation to build on."
Mr Harib was speaking on the third morning of the Dubai World Championship presented by DP World. More than 22,000 visitors attended the Championship on the first two days and the numbers looked set to jump for day three.
"We wanted this Championship to be for the fans," said Mr Harib. "Our offer of free entry was welcomed enthusiastically and we've been really pleased with the numbers so far.
"Of course the battle for top spot in The Race to Dubai is attracting strong interest. So far it looks like a two way fight between Westwood and McIlroy, but there is still a lot of golf to be played."
The Dubai World Championship presented by: DP World is being played on the Earth course at Jumeirah Golf Estates.
Work started on Jumeirah Golf Estates in 2005 and from December 1 the completed Fire and Earth courses will open to residents and members.
