Juniper Networks® (NYSE: JNPR) has announced its new “dynamic security model” that delivers world-class network security to the data center of the 21st century. Juniper’s dynamic security model uniquely helps IT adapt to new user behaviors and changing data flows resulting from virtualization, Web 2.0 and cloud services deployments at scale. Juniper’s data center security products help enterprises and service providers move beyond today’s limited security architectures, to the high-performance identity-aware data center paradigm, while dramatically reducing cost and complexity, and improving application visibility.
Juniper’s new data center security products include:
• Juniper Networks AppTrack software, which provides application-level visibility and control for Juniper Networks SRX Series Services Gateways;
• Availability of Juniper’s AppSecure software, which provides distributed denial-of-service prevention for the SRX Series;
• New Juniper Networks Junos Space Security Design software to help customers move beyond today’s limited security architectures to a high-performance, identity-aware data center approach;
• Availability of OEM version of the Juniper SRX Series via IBM;
• Deep malware protection through a new partnership with FireEye.
Security plays a critical role for all data center deployments. Today’s data centers must secure against sophisticated threats based on behavioral, application specific, and access-based characteristics across a broad range of virtualized data center assets. Secure access solutions for data centers must enforce policies based on a variety of factors, including user identity and role, as well as endpoint type and state. In addition, with the advent of virtualization to increase capacity and system utilization, companies are moving large amounts of data between hosts to build distributed applications across an elastic pool of server resources. Adding to the growing client to server traffic, these changes will drive a much higher capacity of traffic flow from server to server raising the need for greater and more dynamic security.
“Juniper’s security solutions provide us with application and user visibility at scale to help us deliver the pervasive integrated security that we need consistently across our client devices, applications and networks at a global level,” said Christian Schneider, IT-Infrastructure and Security, PUMA. “Controlling costs while simultaneously improving the network's performance and security is critical to our success. With Juniper we are able to optimize the application, business performance, and security of our global network infrastructure while simultaneously reducing cost and complexity.”
Juniper’s dynamic security model, in the SRX Series, enables enterprises to dynamically allocate security resources such as firewalling and IPS. These resources secure the shifting traffic flows all from within a single platform which can scale to over 120Gbps and can be managed as a single services gateway.
Juniper is the first to deliver large-scale, application policy enforcement and further expands its capabilities for the SRX Series with new AppTrack software. Building on Juniper’s recently announced AppSecure suite of applications, AppTrack software provides tight services integration that enables application-level visibility and control for improved data flows and adds application identification information to the IPS session log. Juniper AppTrack is part of the AppSecure suite of applications, which provides business logic denial-of-services prevention for the SRX Series and is now available.
In addition to today’s news, IBM also announced that it has started shipping OEM versions of the SRX Series, enabling IBM customers to get the world’s fastest network firewall as part of their integrated data center solutions. Customers around the world will also continue to leverage IBM managed security services for Juniper’s security appliances.
“With the increasingly dynamic nature of the datacenter network, our customers have been looking for the visibility and the tools to better understand the mix of applications running on their networks,” said Mark Bauhaus, executive vice president and general manager for Juniper's Service Layer Technology Business Group. “Juniper’s security solutions build confidence in the network, improve the user experience regardless of device, location or identity and provide a critical foundation for cloud services.”
Juniper Networks Junos Pulse and Junos Space are also integral parts of Juniper’s dynamic security model providing IT with the ability to dynamically manage identities, applications and policies. Based on the Junos Space network application platform, Juniper’s Security Design (expected availability in Q2) is a new application that allows point-and-click turn-up of both security devices and services (such as firewall, NAT, and VPN) with minimal human intervention while meeting stringent compliance mandates. Security Design’s unique policy abstraction techniques mean network administrators, not security experts, can manage user rule sets and deploy security services.
Working in conjunction with Juniper’s SSL VPN, UAC and Application Acceleration gateways, Junos Pulse enables dynamic, identity-aware security at scale in even the most demanding enterprise and service provider data centers. With Junos Pulse, user identity and machine state can be seamlessly integrated into firewall policies enabling these policies to “follow the user,” ensuring only the “right” people may access corporate resources. Junos Pulse can also help businesses to know who is accessing their applications, as well as when, where, and what applications are being accessed.
“Everyone talks about the scalability needs of data center network security, but that's only half the battle,” said Jon Oltsik, principal analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group. “Beyond scale, enterprise organizations also need comprehensive network security protection from IP packets scanning through application safeguards at Layer 7. Juniper is one of the few companies that can deliver this type of end-to-end security protection in a single, super computer-like platform - a perfect fit for consolidated data centers, service providers, or cloud computing architecture.”
To secure the data center against data breaches, targeted attacks, and recurring modern malware intrusions, Juniper has partnered with FireEye to help stop the malware infection lifecycle. Using FireEye’s Malware Protection System in conjunction with Juniper’s security infrastructure, organizations can secure their networks against inbound, zero-hour malware, outbound data theft callbacks, and dynamically inoculate their networks from future attacks through both local analysis and global malware intelligence infrastructure.
“Modern malware attacks are targeting data centers because that is where the valuable enterprise assets are stored,” said Ashar Aziz, FireEye founder and CEO. “This makes it more important than ever to protect networks and systems against modern malware intrusions, and we look forward to working with Juniper on building the new generation of secure data center infrastructure.”
