The university of JWT ‘UJWT’, an initiative launched by JWT, a top tier advertising agency to provide its talent with the latest and highest standards of learning and development, yesterday hosted Mr. Edward McDougal, a US expert in the filmmaking industry, who delivered an insightful lecture to students of the American University of Dubai ‘AUD’ and to employees from JWT, about decoding visual symbols.
Titled ‘Constructing Emotionally Powerful Images for Film and Advertising’, the lecture introduced and engaged students from the Visual Communications Art Department of AUD, to the importance of understanding the visual symbols in movies or commercials, and how sometimes still images from feature film clips and ads produce a powerful underlying unconscious effect in the audience.
The lecture also served as a forum through which students were given insight about filmmaking and advertising techniques and allowed for direct engagement between AUD students and advertising professionals.
“This has been an excellent opportunity for our Advertising and Marketing Communications students. They got to work side by side with JWT’s professionals while learning from a renowned filmmaking expert” says Prof. Dina Faour, the Advertising (creative) Concentration Coordinator at AUD’s Visual Communications department.
Members of the JWT team in Dubai who attended the lecture, described the event as part of the agency’s continuous efforts to provide its people with learning and development programs that compliment and enrich their experiences, as well as give them the opportunity to meet with the industry’s leading experts.
‘This lecture is an example of collaboration between JWT and the academic society in Dubai, aimed at providing the visual communications students with relevant knowledge of the communications trade,’ said, Vatche Keverian, JWT CEO for the Gulf. ‘It is part of future series of lectures we are planning to hold for both JWT employees and future candidates in Dubai.’
