Lebanese singer Marcel Khalifa will sing in Amman next Friday, Jordanian daily Al Arab Al Yawm reported Friday.

To perform at the Arena Auditorium at Amman Private University, it will be the first concert for the popular singer in Amman after a controversial trial in Lebanon last year when he was tried for abusing Islamic values. Islamists filed the charges against him after he composed a song written by celebrated Palestinian poet, Mahmoud Darwish, entitled "Father, I am Joseph," referring to Quranic verses on Joseph, the prophet.

The Lebanese prosecution charged that the illusion to Quranic verses was totally unacceptable and insulted Islam, sparking off a pan-Arab debate regarding freedom of speach and expression.

Khalifah, well known for his patriotic songs, was acquitted of the charges in March -- Albawaba.com
