Sudan's government on Sunday declared solidarity with the peoples of Ethiopia and Eritrea in coping with the reportedly severe famine in those neighboring countries.
The Sudanese foreign ministry said in a statement that Khartoum "has been following, with utmost anxiety, news reports by UN agencies of this famine and the aggravation of the situation in those sisterly states", AFP reported.
It added that Sudan feels "obliged to rush to the assistance of the Ethiopian and Eritrean brothers in response to their appeals for relief."
Moreover, the ministry said Sudanese organizations had already started collecting humanitarian aid, adding that it would make arrangements in the upcoming days to dispatch the aid "in observance of the good neighborly ties and the demographic and tribal interrelationship". (Albawaba.com)
