Khatami Back Home from UN Meeting

Iranian President Mohammad Khatami wound up his five-day visit to New York for the 56th United Nations General Assembly session, where he said the world is in dire need of "freedom and justice," Iran’s official news agency (IRNA) reported. 

President Khatami met on the sidelines of the assembly several world leaders and discussed with them the latest regional and international developments, said IRNA. 

The issue of dialogue among civilizations topped the agenda of the Iranian president who arrived back in Tehran on Tuesday. 

During his stay, President Khatami conferred with UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan and discussed international and bilateral issues with the heads of states from various countries, including Palestine, Austria, Germany, India, Pakistan, Brazil, Romania and Bosnia-Herzegovina. He also conferred with Secretary of the Organization of the Islamic Conference Abdelouahed Belkaziz and Belgian Foreign Minister Louis Michel, whose country currently heads the European Union, and discussed issues of mutual interest – Albawaba.com
