Iranian President Mohammed Khatami's office on Monday rejected local reports that there were parallel security units operating within the office for procurement and installing bugs and telecommunication systems, reported the official Iranian news agency (IRNA).
Several Persian-language dailies on Sunday reported that a security advisor to Khatami had imported sophisticated eavesdropping equipment from a European country to tap phones, and that a security unit parallel to country's information units had been set up inside that office.
But Khatami’s office said it was “totally” against establishing such unit, particularly for dealing with security affairs, and that there had not been and would never be any such unit in that office, IRNA said.
“What has been claimed is a lie, and merely aims to create public incitement...It is not a personal issue which can be ignored,” Khatami’s office said in a statement - Albawaba.com
